Make ahead whole grain muffins

If your mornings are as rushed as ours are, there is a way to make a great warm, wholesome, whole grain breakfast without the long prep time. You can even use your own recipe!

First simply substitute the flour in your recipe for 100% freshly milled flour. It's whole grain and provides all the nutrients intended in the grain.

Now, get your recipe, a zip lock bag, a measuring cup or bowl with a lid.

In the zip lock bag, put all your dry ingredients and shake.

In the bowl/covered measuring cup, put all your wet/moist ingredients and mix.

Pop both into the refrigerator and in the morning, combine just until moist.

Place in greased muffin tins in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes!

Tah-Dah! Fast food that's good for you!

Whole Grain Pancakes

Pancakes are an easy, fast and tasty breakfast, or even a nice late night dinner. When made with whole grains, these fluffy treats add the bonus of fiber and nutrition that is missing from a box-mix.

Pancakes can be made with buckwheat (not a grain but a seed), oatmeal, cornmeal, wheat, Ezekiel Flour (for a protein packed pancake) or any combination of them all!

2 cups of milled grains, 2 eggs, 2-3 cups of milk (soy, cow or almond/rice) , 2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt. Mix slightly. Cook on a hot griddle. Top with honey, agave nectar or fruit and enjoy!

These even save in wax paper and freezer bags for a fast breakfast out the door!

  • What’s Wrong with a Typical Storage Food List?
I got an email the other day from a loving and well meaning friend who was sharing how to buy storage food cheaply over time. It was a wonderful gesture and right in line with the need to prepare. Honestly, though, it got me thinking and wondering what’s wrong with the typical food storage list. […]
  • Water, water everywhere nor any a drop to drink.
This line from the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner rings more true when thinking of surviving difficult times. As we’ve stated before in at least one email that has gone out to everyone who subscribes, water is more VITAL than food when surviving is the issue. A human body can last at least […]
  • Learning Survival Skills, Techniques and Planning
Although I would not classify what our family does as being ‘Survivalists’, we do factor that portion of planning and preparing into our ‘Prepping’ lifestyle. The skills, tools, techniques and planning it takes to survive in difficult times have been lost due to the over abundance of conveniences. Even if you don’t plan on ‘roughing […]
  • Long-Term Workable Pantry TOOLS.
It all sounds nice and good to say ‘Build a Long-Term Workable Pantry” but if you don’t know where to get the tools to do so, it can be a bit frustrating. Our hope is to give you some realistic options to choose from. We’ve touched on how to go about it and some steps […]
